Philips has expanded its ultrasound portfolio with the launch of the Alturion system, which features AI-powered workflows and is intended for high-volume clinical environments.

The product is now available in the US and Europe following clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the 510(k) process and receipt of the CE mark, respectively.

It combines advanced imaging capabilities with an AI-driven workflow designed to help clinicians operate more efficiently and maintain consistent results in settings where demand and operational complexity are increasing.

The system aims to assist healthcare providers in streamlining their examinations and supporting uniformity across users and locations.

Philips precision diagnosis chief business leader Jie Xue said: “At Philips, our goal is to develop technology that adapts to the realities of modern healthcare and helps care teams work more effectively in increasingly demanding clinical environments.

“Alturion was designed with that goal in mind, helping healthcare providers deliver high-quality care with greater efficiency and confidence.”

Alturion features a processing architecture that enables responsive performance and clear visualisation across a range of patients and examination types.

It is equipped with a 24in monitor and is designed for easy movement between departments and bedside settings, supporting space utilisation in busy environments.

The system includes streamlined, intuitive workflows intended to reduce manual adjustments and examination times, which may help manage high patient volumes.

It also incorporates Elevate Plus, which includes AI-powered measurements specifically for abdominal ultrasound.

Philips reports that these AI-enabled capabilities can simplify image acquisition, automate measurements, enhance reproducibility, and help reduce variability and time needed for exams.

Alturion also integrates with Philips’ connected ultrasound ecosystem. It shares a user interface and interchangeable transducers with other platforms such as the EPIQ Elite and Affiniti systems.

The company states that this compatibility may simplify training and accelerate onboarding, assisting in the maintenance of standard workflows across departments.

Last month, Philips received FDA 510(k) clearance for Elevate Plus, an upgrade that adds new imaging and AI capabilities to its EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound systems.
