SRV and the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County in Finland have signed a contract for a new building dedicated to child and adolescent psychiatry at TAYS Tampere University Hospital.

The contract for SRV, valued at €31.7m ($32.7m) excluding VAT, will be included in its order backlog as of this month.

The project will commence with the demolition of Building Y to accommodate the new facility, which is expected to open in early 2028.

It will be executed as a shared contract, with SRV taking the lead as the principal and main contractor for the technical construction work.

SRV regional manager Tero Karislahti said: “The work will be carried out on an active hospital campus — we’ll thus pay special attention to working safely and in a way that doesn’t disrupt activities in the hospital area.”

SRV has a history of projects in the TAYS Central Hospital area, including the TAYS Front Yard project completed in 2019, which involved constructing three new buildings with a combined value exceeding €250m.

Pirkanmaa construction manager Matias Seini said: “The construction of the new child and adolescent psychiatry building is also the first step in the modernisation of the oldest buildings in the TAYS Central Hospital area.

“The next phase will involve the construction of a new building for key hospital functions such as the Acuta on-call service, operating theatres, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.”

The upcoming building is expected to centralise the child and adolescent psychiatry services of Tampere University Hospital, leading to smoother operations and cost savings through expedited treatment processes.

Additionally, it aims to address the growing demand and current congestion issues.

The facility will incorporate advanced technology and methods to ensure energy efficiency, health, effective treatment, and safety.
