Taichung Hospital selects RayStation treatment planning system

The order, valued at around €1.9m, covers licences for proton and photon treatment.

July 10 2023

Proton therapy machine vendor Sumitomo Corporate has ordered RaySearch Laboratories’ RayStation treatment planning system for deployment at Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) in Taiwan.

The order is worth around €1.9m, which excludes service contracts, with delivery scheduled for 2025.

It covers licences for proton and photon treatment, along with functionality including multi-criteria optimisation (MCO) and dose calculation on CBCT images for proton treatment.

RaySearch founder and CEO Johan Löf said: "The strong demand for RayStation from proton therapy clinics continues and I am pleased that we can support Sumitomo's compact system, making this technology available in an optimal way to cancer patients in the region.”

The Taiwanese hospital will utilise a Sumitomo proton therapy machine with the compact next-generation system of the vendor.

By adapting RayStation with this system, the hospital looks to accelerate treatment plan delivery for moving tumours.

TCVGH radiation oncology department chief Weir Chiang You said: "I am delighted to announce that TVGH will soon be incorporating the state-of-the-art Sumitomo proton therapy machine into our clinical practice.

"Recognised as a global leader in the development of advanced software for proton therapy treatment planning, RaySearch's innovative approach and commitment to improving cancer treatment align perfectly with our mission at TVGH.

"Their premier product, RayStation, will provide our medical professionals with the tools they need to optimise patient treatment plans and improve therapy outcomes."
