Canadian security solutions developer Xtract One Technologies has announced that its Xtract One Gateway system has been installed at hospitals in Manitoba, Canada.

These hospitals include the Health Sciences Centre and the Crisis Response Centre, both of which are located in Winnipeg and operated by Shared Health.

The use of the Xtract One Gateway system at these facilities is intended to enhance safety standards while maintaining efficient operational flow.

Xtract One CEO Peter Evans said: “Healthcare environments today face two security challenges: providing top-tier security while ensuring that both patients and caregivers feel safe and comfortable.

“This is a trend we’re seeing across the healthcare sector, where providers are actively looking for solutions to these growing challenges, and we welcome the opportunity to play a role in securing health facility environments.”

Xtract One's portfolio is designed for scanning individuals and their belongings to allow them to pass seamlessly through checkpoints.

The Gateway system scans people, bags and pockets for potential mass casualty weapons while identifying personal items.

In doing so, it aims to streamline access and improve screening times while removing the need for separate bag searches.

Based in Toronto, Xtract One Technologies specialises in creating weapons and threat detection systems that prioritise a 'walk-right-in' experience without compromising safety.

The company's AI-powered Gateway solutions are designed to discreetly screen and identify threats at entry and exit points, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow and heightened security.

The Crisis Response Centre is currently establishing a centralised access point for adults facing a mental health crisis to access at any time, in an environment designed to promote both healing and recovery.

This will provide short-term clinical treatment and support services via walk-in, mobile and scheduled appointments, as well as planned linkage and referral to the most suitable services and support.
