Henry Ford Health is set to commence transfer of patients to its new Janet and Jim Riehl North Tower, a $265m expansion of its Macomb hospital, reported detroitnews.com.
The five-storey tower, spanning 225,000ft², features 160 private patient rooms.

This is claimed to be the largest expansion since the hospital’s establishment in 1975 and the largest healthcare investment in Macomb County’s history.
All rooms in the new facility can be converted into intensive care units if needed, thereby increasing the hospital’s intensive care bed capacity from 48 to 60.
The tower will offer specialised care in cardiovascular, thoracic, trauma, surgical, and neurological intensive care.
In addition, the tower features private rooms with enhanced privacy, accommodations for family members, and improved infection prevention measures.

By GlobalDataThe hospital’s north entrance, powerhouse, and loading docks have also been redesigned, and and a secure staff parking lot has been added.
The project has created over 30 new full-time positions in various departments.
In future, the hospital plans to move existing critical care beds from the south tower to the new north tower and will undergo a second phase of renovations in the central tower.
Henry Ford Macomb Hospital offers an array of specialised services such as emergency and trauma care, heart and vascular services, cancer treatment, a birthing centre, rehabilitation, and advanced neuroscience and orthopaedic care.
Having a team of more than 1,000 physicians and 3,000 employees, the hospital serves nearly 20,000 inpatients and handles over 57,000 emergency visits annually.
