Research estimates that pressure injuries (otherwise known as bedsores) are attributable to approximately 60,000 deaths per year in the US. Research also indicates that with the traditional models for early prevention and care, ethnic minorities suffer a higher mortality rate than Caucasian patients, due to the fact that the early warning signs of a developing pressure injury is harder to identify due to their skin tone.
