Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has allocated A$1.6m ($1.05m) for infrastructure projects at Maclean District Hospital to improve staff safety and patient care.

The funding announcement by regional health minister Ryan Park is aimed at meeting the facility requirements at the hospital.

The investment comprises two components: A$1m for upgrading the outdated nurse call system where replacement parts are no longer available, and A$600,000 for replacing the 30-year-old lift, which experiences intermittent breakdowns.

The new nurse call system is expected to enhance communication between nursing staff and patients while the replacement lift will provide reliable transport for staff, patients and equipment.

The new lift will be fabricated and delivered, after which there will be a three-month period to decommission the old lift and complete the installation. This process is expected to take place around mid-2026.

The hospital recently completed a A$245,000 mortuary facilities upgrade that includes access arrangements, refrigeration, ceilings, flooring and new walls.
