It will also increase hospital capacity and improve healthcare accessibility for regional communities.
The modular approach enables preliminary work to start while the final designs for both healthcare facilities are being finalised.
It also involves creating standardised modular designs suite to expedite future health infrastructure initiatives, particularly in the remote and rural areas of Western Australia.

By GlobalDataMeekatharra Hospital’s redevelopment will feature modern inpatient facilities, upgraded emergency services, upgraded ICT systems, and enhanced patient support areas for supporting logistics.
The Albany Health Campus is set to increase its capacity with the addition of a new modular ward with 32 beds.
WA health infrastructure minister John Carey said: “Our government is thinking outside the box to accelerate the delivery of health infrastructure, including utilising modern construction methods.
“Engaging a single contractor for both projects is a deliberate approach to fast-track delivery by allowing early works for both projects to start while final designs are being completed. The early contractor involvement arrangement brings contractors into the planning stage and encourages fresh ideas and practical solutions that can improve efficiencies and delivery timelines.”
WA Health Minister Meredith Hammat said: “Staff at Meekatharra Hospital and Albany Health Campus continue to provide exceptional care and these upgrades will give them the modern facilities and digital tools they need to support high-quality, patient-centred services.”
In December 2024, the WA government launched an innovation hub at Royal Perth Hospital, a new facility aimed at fostering innovation in healthcare among clinicians.
