US-based National Surgical Healthcare (NSH) will acquire a majority stake in Georgia-based orthopaedic-focused health system, Optim Healthcare.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

"Optim offers musculoskeletal healthcare services in 19 counties of southeast Georgia through its 25-bed orthopaedic-focused critical access hospital in Reidsville and an ambulatory surgery centre in Savannah."

The health system also comprises two 25-bed critical access hospitals in Sylvania and Millen, seven outpatient physical and occupational therapy clinics, two full-service imaging centres and eight rural health clinics.

Optim lead physician partner Dr John George said: "As we considered the opportunities ahead for Optim and the increasingly complex business landscape for our practice, we realised that additional skills and capabilities would be needed to reach our goals and capitalise on new prospects for growth."

Subject to approval by US Federal Trade Commission and other customary closing conditions, the deal is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2015.

NSH operates musculoskeletal-focused surgical hospitals and ambulatory surgery centres across the US.
