The Government of Tasmania in Australia has announced that essential upgrade works at Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) have commenced.
The move was announced by Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff.

According to a statement, the works will expand the MCH’s Outpatients Clinics and Operating Theatres.
The project will create additional space on the ground floor and level one enabling the hospital to accommodate outpatients, operating theatres and expand recovery services.
As part of the expansion, a new Elective Day Surgery Centre will be established to facilitate access to sub-specialty surgery. It will also help in reducing waiting times for different elective surgeries.
The facilities at the centre will include additional endoscopy, day surgery, theatre and recovery suites. It will also feature two new consulting rooms for the patients.

By GlobalDataSeparately, the expanded Outpatients Clinic will have 13 new consulting rooms, six specialist treatment rooms, six dedicated paediatric rooms, audiology and physiotherapy spaces and a waiting area.
The works are part of the government’s larger redevelopment programme of the MCH.
Local company Fairbrother’s Construction has secured the A$41.1m ($29.23m) contract to carry out the works.
During construction, the project will support around 100 jobs.
The project, slated to complete in late 2024, will enable the hospital to meet the requirements of the North-West community and better serve patients with chronic diseases.
Earlier this year, Tasmania approved two important Stage II Redevelopment projects at Royal Hobart Hospital.
