The top five companies accounted for 6% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Johnson & Johnson filed the most artificial intelligence patents within the healthcare industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 45 artificial intelligence-related patents in the quarter, compared with 34 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Siemens with 37 artificial intelligence patent filings, Koninklijke Philips (36 filings), and NEC (26 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 32% share of total patent filings
The largest share of artificial intelligence related patent filings in the healthcare industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 32%, followed by China (28%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by the US was 8% higher than the 24% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
