The top five companies accounted for 7% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Koninklijke Philips filed the most artificial intelligence patents within the healthcare industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 59 artificial intelligence-related patents in the quarter, compared with 62 in the previous quarter. It was followed by NEC with 56 artificial intelligence patent filings, Siemens (44 filings), and Abbott Laboratories (29 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 31% share of total patent filings
The largest share of artificial intelligence related patent filings in the healthcare industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 31%, followed by China (31%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by the US was 0.98% higher than the 30% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
