The global healthcare industry noticed a 2.0% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 10.95% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity increased 4.32% when compared with July 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.27% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.04% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 9.65% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 20.68% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive healthcare IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 36.13% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in August 2022, a 0.25% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.2% in August 2022, up 0.58% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with an 18.72% share in August 2022, a decline of 18.87% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 12.97% share in August 2022 and a rise of 48.97% over July 2022.

Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 12.5% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Intermountain Healthcare posted 244 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 42.45% over the previous month, followed by Apria Healthcare Group with 165 jobs and a 16400% growth. CVS Health with 145 IT jobs and WellSky with 82 jobs, recorded a 31.82% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Laboratoryof America Holdings recorded a 29.63% drop with 57 job postings during August 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 94.3% share, which marked a 0.52% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 3.46%, registering an 8.45% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 1.84% share and a 29.31% drop over July 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.31% and a month-on-month drop of 30%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.09%, registering a 100% increase over the previous month.
