The global healthcare industry noticed a 2.6% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 20.6% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 3.18% when compared with June 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.32% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, up 0.05% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 7.38% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 17.62% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive healthcare IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 34.1% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in July 2022, an 18.64% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.77% in July 2022, down 27.16% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 22.36% share in July 2022, a decline of 15.78% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 9.11% share in July 2022 and a drop of 17.98% over June 2022.

Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 13.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Intermountain Healthcare posted 423 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 26.56% over the previous month, followed by UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center with 124 jobs and a flat growth. CVS Health with 110 IT jobs and Laboratoryof America Holdings with 81 jobs, recorded a 40.54% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while McKesson recorded a 25.81% drop with 46 job postings during July 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 93.18% share, which marked a 13.01% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 3.46%, registering a 4.41% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 2.83% share and a 34.88% rise over June 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.49% and a month-on-month rise of 42.86%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.05%, registering a 66.67% decrease over the previous month.
