Aster Volunteers and Al Shifa Multispecialty Hospital in India have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a field hospital in Delhi to address shortage of beds for Covid-19 patients.
As part of the MoU, a 50-bed field hospital will be set up to offer support to financially disadvantaged patients who require critical care. It will be operated by Al Shifa.

Aster Volunteers, the global CSR arm of UAE-based Aster DM Healthcare, will support the development of the medical facility while ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place.
Aster DM Healthcare founder chairman and managing director Dr Azad Moopen said: “India requires aggressive measures at the moment to be able to tackle the current situation.
“While our 14 hospitals in India, spread across Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, are at a war-footing to serve as many Covid positive patients as possible, maintaining all the protocols needed to break the chain of infection, there is a sharp increase in the requirement for hospital beds being faced on a daily basis in major cities like Delhi, especially among the financially weaker segments of the society.”
New patient beds, medical equipment and other items would be purchased to operate the hospital.

By GlobalDataAster Volunteers also plans to provide a 50% discount on emergency critical surgeries such as transplants, cardiac and oncology surgeries for needy patients in the state of Kerala.
Al Shifa Multispecialty Hospital is run by Human Welfare Trust.
