Burjeel Holdings flagship hospital Burjeel Medical City (BMC) has partnered with Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) to enhance healthcare accessibility for people with disabilities in Abu Dhabi.
This collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed between ZHO secretary-general Abdullah Al Humaidan and BMC deputy CEO Aysha Al Mahri.
As per this MoU, BMC will work with ZHO to deliver a suite of rehabilitation services, specialised treatments, and early disability detection programmes to help “People of Determination”, a term used for describing people with disability.
BMC is set to complete rehabilitation therapy services for people of determination returning from treatment abroad, ensuring continuity of care.
The agreement also outlines some additional potential areas of cooperation between the two organisations.
These areas include speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behaviour modification services that are expected to be offered at the Abu Dhabi Autism Center.

In addition, the alliance seeks to provide therapeutic rehabilitative services at ZHO’s physical, occupational and speech therapy centres.
Meanwhile, BMC will deploy its medical specialists, including paediatricians, neurologists, and general practitioners, at ZHO’s Autism Center and other centres to support these new initiatives.
Another initiative, called ‘Ifhas’, aimed at early detection and prevention of chronic diseases among employees and their families, will also be promoted through this partnership.
Besides, BMC will offer early detection services for disabilities at various stages, including pre- and post-pregnancy stages, working closely with ZHO’s Comprehensive Evaluation Department.
Abdullah Al Humaidan highlighted that the collaboration is an extension of ZHO’s commitment to providing diverse care and rehabilitation services.
He also acknowledged ZHO and BMC’s efforts to use 3D printing technology for orthopaedic purposes.
Burjeel Holdings CEO John Sunil said: “This collaboration aligns with our commitment to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to all members of the community, ensuring that everyone has access to the support and services they need to thrive.”
