Construction work has begun on the new Jayadeva Hospital in Hubballi, Karnataka, India, fulfilling a longstanding demand of the people in the region, reported The Times of India.

The Rs2500m ($30.27m) Jayadeva Hospital is expected to be ready in 30 months.

According to the publication, the hospital is intended to offer tertiary cardiac care services to the local population, with free treatment for the poor.

The project is part of the government’s efforts to establish Jayadeva Hospitals in various cities.

The foundation stone for the Jayadeva Hospital was laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year.

Health and family welfare engineering wing executive engineer SN Suresh told TOI “The work was started immediately after Modi laid the foundation for the Jayadeva heart centre.

“The work contract has been given to Balaji Krupa Projects Private Limited, Bengaluru.”

Following construction, the facility will have multiple floors and a total of 430 beds, including ICU facilities and specialised treatment areas.

The contractor has also been instructed to complete the construction within the stipulated time.

In addition, Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao conducted the Bhumi Puja ceremony for the construction of a 100-bed hospital in Yellareddy at a cost of Rs150m ($1.82m), reported Telangana Today.
