Gillette Children’s Speciality Hospital in the US has leveraged workforce intelligence from the UKG Pro suite into its systems to enhance care.

The hospital treats children with complex medical conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and spina bifida.

Gillette Children’s HR strategic services director Michelle Lemahieu said: “With real-time access to information such as retention and turnover, we’re able to make smarter decisions about our staff and staffing levels as well as our finances and payroll, and where we can deploy HR resources that will deliver the greatest returns.

“UKG is remarkably agile and makes everything easier for us, including saving us 40 hours a week in data entry alone, so we can focus on making strategic decisions in support of our people.”

UKG’s workforce intelligence tools have been instrumental in identifying patterns in employee turnover at Gillette Children’s.

With this, the hospital could address retention challenges and prevent potential staffing issues.

To further optimise staff scheduling, Gillette Children’s is planning to leverage UKG’s open API framework.

This will allow the integration of UKG workforce management with the hospital’s electronic medical records (EMR) system.

The result is expected to be an improved real-time strategy for maintaining patient-to-staff ratios while offering employees the flexibility to choose their preferred shifts.

This initiative is anticipated to boost morale, as staff will have the convenience of adjusting their schedules through UKG at any time.

UKG chief nurse executive Nanne Finis said: “Workforce intelligence is essential to the success of any organisation, and is especially crucial to the healthcare industry, which faces ongoing staffing shortages and high burnout rates.

“Data is power, but how organisations act on that data is what has the biggest impact on their people, culture, and patient wellbeing. Every day, thousands of healthcare organisations rely on UKG to help build productive and engaged workforces across the continuum of care, ultimately resulting in optimal patient outcomes.”

In May 2023, Gillette Children’s partnered with Notable for the accessibility of speciality care.
