Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) in the US has announced the opening of the Dr James and JoAnn Bourland Radiation Oncology Center, which has started welcoming patients.

This new facility provides comprehensive cancer care offerings of GVMH, which include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. They will enable patients to access complete cancer care closer to their homes.

GVMH’s existing cancer centre offers chemotherapy, as well as infusion services that comprise blood transfusions, antibiotic administration, biopsies of bone marrow, genetic and molecular analysis, catheter changes, phlebotomies, and hydration therapy.

Its oncology clinic, located at the centre, provides assessment and continued treatment options for cancer patients, as well as those with blood disorders.

The new centre is equipped with the Varian Medical Systems TrueBeam Linear Accelerator system, the most advanced medical linear accelerator suite that is presently available.

This technology offers image-guided radiotherapy with increased precision, capable of treating tumours located anywhere in the body.

In addition, the suite features a Skylite in-ceiling video wall that displays calming videos and images to help patients relax during their radiation treatments.

GVMH has a team of surgeons, nurse navigators, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other specialists to deliver complete care during treatment.

GVMH CEO Craig Thompson said: “We are extremely proud of our new facility and delighted to bring these services to our surrounding area.

A diagnosis of cancer can be frightening. It is important to have a network of trusted caregivers in a familiar setting closer to home.”

The healthcare provider offers primary and speciality care offerings in Clinton, Osceola, Warsaw, and Windsor, Missouri.

Cancer treatment mostly comprises three treatment choices, namely surgery, chemotherapy, and targeted radiation.

The unavailability of one of these options is said to compromise treatment success in patients.
