LifePoint Health and Kindred Healthcare are set to establish a new healthcare company, under the name ScionHealth, to be headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, the US.
The new company will be launched after concluding the previously announced acquisition of Kindred, which is expected to be completed later this year.
Kindred Healthcare CEO Benjamin Breier said: “With the launch of ScionHealth and growth of LifePoint Health, our organisations will advance healthcare for the communities we serve, while building upon Kindred’s legacy and commitment to the Louisville business community as a strong corporate citizen, significant employer, and care innovator.
“Our patients and partners will greatly benefit from two well-capitalised and diversified companies that are unique in their focus but also share a deep commitment to quality care, collaboration, and creating great workplaces.”
ScionHealth will operate a total of 79 hospital campuses located across 25 states in the country.
They include Kindred’s 61 long-term acute care hospitals and 18 community hospitals and health systems belonging to LifePoint.
The new company will be led by management team, consisting members from LifePoint as well as Kindred.
Additionally, LifePoint intends to combine more than 65 hospital campuses and its network of physician practices and outpatient centres with Kindred’s rehabilitation and behavioural health businesses.
LifePoint president and CEO David Dill said: “As our teams began to examine how best to bring together the operations of LifePoint and Kindred, it became increasingly clear that we had the right mix of talent, services and assets to reorganize into two strong companies to better serve our patients and communities.
“In forming two companies with unique areas of focus, LifePoint Health and ScionHealth can improve access to quality care, create more opportunities for our employees, and invest in our communities.”
