East lothian hospital

British construction company Galliford Try has secured a £72m contract for the construction of the new East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington, Scotland.

The company’s Morrison Construction business was appointed as the preferred contractor by Hub South East Scotland on behalf of NHS Lothian for this project, with construction expected to start next year.

Galliford Try’s facilities management business also secured a £32m contract to provide ongoing facilities maintenance and lifecycle management to the new hospital over a 25 year period.

Galliford Try Investments will be investing and providing management services to the company, which will be set up to fund the project.

The 23,000m² community hospital will be built on the existing Roodlands Campus located in Haddington.

"We look forward to working with Hub South East Scotland and NHS Lothian to create the top class facilities the local public deserve."

Following completion, the facility will provide a range of community based services, including day surgery, mental health inpatient beds, medicine for the elderly, a pharmacy and other community based treatment services.

Separately, Galliford Try was appointed as preferred supply chain partner under the ProCure21+ framework to support the £150m site wide redevelopment of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

Work under this project, which will be delivered by Galliford Try’s Northern Home Counties business unit from its newly opened base in Luton, will start immediately to deliver a £6m office block that is required to enable delivery of the main works.

The main programme, scheduled to be completed in 2019, includes a new £80m ‘Hot Block’ for all critical care, surgery and other complex care procedures, refurbishing wards, delivering a new energy centre for the site and extending and refurbishing the emergency department.
