The Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital has begun treating cancer using Varian Medicals’ TrueBeam system.
Clinicians are used the TrueBeam system for the first time to deliver palliative treatment for a metastatic bone lesion, and then image-guided and intensity-modulated radiotherapy treatment to treat a head and neck cancer.

The TrueBeam treatment system can coordinate imaging, patient positioning, motion management and treatment delivery.
Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital Department of Radiotherapy director Wing-Hong Kwan said the TrueBeam system offers 3D imaging capabilities, which helps to quickly and accurately deliver high doses to the tumour.
The TrueBeam system has the capability to synchronise treatment with a patient’s respiratory motion and to generate real-time images during treatment.
