Memorial Medical Center, a Magnet-designated, acute care hospital located in Springfield, Illinois, has upgraded to Carestream healthcare IT platforms featuring advanced features and consolidated data storage.
The Illinois hospital has selected Carestream’s Vue PACS and Carestream Vue for Vendor Neutral Archive to streamline its workflow by equipping more than 500 clinicians with fully featured on-site and remote access of images and reports.
Carestream’s Vue PACS is a web-enabled picture archiving communication system that provides flexible image review, management, distribution and archiving.
Vue PACS delivers integrated advanced visualisation, 3D post processing, lesion management, dictation, critical results notification and a mammography module that eliminates the need for dedicated workstations, while the Vue Motion viewer provides easy access to imaging data and patient information by clinicians anytime, anywhere.
Other enhancements included in the Vue PACS platform include integrated advanced visualisation, vessel analysis and cardiac analysis.
The Vue Motion viewer allows clinicians and referring physicians to review quickly and easily both imaging studies and reports as they are conducting patient rounds at the hospital or from their offices or homes.

By GlobalDataMemorial Medical Center medical imaging director Marjorie Calvetti said the hospital’s new image viewer gives physicians on-demand access to imaging data and patient information from web-enabled devices such as Apple iPads, enabling them to make treatment decisions quickly.
"This new capability also allows doctors to enhance their communication with patients by explaining the patient’s condition and allowing them to view their medical exams," Calvetti added.
The hospital’s Vue Archive now supports radiology, cardiology, neurology and radiation oncology exams to enable the facility to achieve the cost and management benefits of a consolidated storage platform.
The upgrade was a major undertaking since the hospital had not upgraded its PACS and archiving platform for more than five years.
Calvetti said the company conducted advanced training for radiologists on the new features prior to implementation, and the trainers came back the week hospital went live to address any questions.
"Several weeks later Carestream conducted a final round of advanced training for radiologists to ensure that they were fully proficient on the new tools," Calvetti added.
"Carestream’s planning, preparation and training all contributed to a smooth transition."
