Canada-based Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) have selected Plenary Health to design, construct, finance and maintain the expansion project for the Milton District Hospital in Ontario.
The Plenary Health team comprises developer Plenary Group, PCL Constructors Canada, architects B+H Architects and RTKL Associates, as well as financial advisor RBC Capital Markets and facility manager Johnson Controls Canada.
Ontario health and long-term care minister Dr Eric Hoskins said: "Today’s announcement brings us one step closer to getting shovels in the ground on the Milton District Hospital expansion project.
"This expansion will result in an amazing, state-of-the-art facility, enhancing high-quality healthcare services in Canada’s fastest-growing city."
As part of the expansion, 330,000ft² will be added to the existing 125,000ft² hospital, and overall capacity of the hospital will increase from 63 to 129 inpatient beds.
The expansion project will address the needs of seniors, children, individuals with visual or cognitive impairments, and those using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
A new unit will allow expansion of emergency, surgical, critical care, maternal newborn, and diagnostic imaging and support services.
In addition, the project will include the installation of the hospital’s first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine and a level IIA special care nursery, with capacity for eight bassinets in the maternal newborn unit.
