The public health system of South Australia, SA Health, will deploy Allscripts’ Sunrise Enterprise suite of advanced clinical, access management and financial solutions across its network of metropolitan and rural hospitals.

The move follows the finalisation of an agreement that started at the end of 2010, when SA Health chose Allscripts as vendor of choice for the Government of South Australia’s initiative to install an integrated electronic health record (EHR) across SA Health facilities.

Sunrise Enterprise will provide SA Health facilities with the Enterprise Patient Administration System (EPAS), which will help physicians to access patient’s vital information.

The solution, which includes a fully integrated acute care electronic health record, is also expected to improve patient care and clinical workflow.

The Sunrise Enterprise suite will also replace multiple obsolete, unconnected information systems and databases across SA Health facilities.

SA Health’s chief medical officer Paddy Phillips said working with Allscripts over the last year has confirmed their view that they are an excellent partner with the right global team, experience and technology to deliver the foundation for South Australia’s e-health record system.

"We are excited to move forward with Sunrise to help us improve clinical safety and efficiency across all our health services," Phillips added.

According to Allscripts, the Sunrise Enterprise suite will help healthcare facilities save time, costs and lives by offering the insights that physicians require to improve patient care.

The solution will also facilitate information sharing among the individuals involved in a patient’s care and transitions of care between providers, departments, shifts and facilities, according to the company.

SA Health’s hospitals and health clinics serve a population of 1.6 million.

Founded in 1986, the US-based Allscripts Healthcare Solutions provides physician practices, hospitals and other healthcare providers with practice management and electronic health record technology.
