US-based catholic not-for-profit health system, SSM Health, has introduced the Surescripts National Record Locator Service (NRLS) in their system.
The Surescripts NRLS, which covers 2 billion patient interactions for 140 million patients nationwide, allows locating and gives a comprehensive health record for 10,000 SSM Health clinicians in Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma, in the Epic electronic health record (EHR), regardless of the patient’s point of care.
The service integrates with Epic’s Care Everywhere interoperability platform while operating on Carequality framework. It can easily adapt to the SSM Health’s physician workflow.
It facilitates a quick and an efficient location of patient records and sharing the same across different systems, geographies and technologies as well as saves cost by reducing the need of conducting tests and other procedures which might have already been done previously.
NRLS enables SSM Health to be acquainted of the patient’s medical history and their treatments undertaken in different hospitals which enable the doctors to enhance their quality of care by gaining an access to critical information.
SSM Health chief medical information officer Richard Vaughn said: "When a patient arrives in one of our emergency departments, urgent care clinics or physician’s offices, Surescripts national record locator service enables the care team to access valuable clinical information from other providers who have previously treated the patient, regardless of where they received care or the electronic health record software used.
