US-based Sunnyside Community Hospital is set to acquire Yakima Valley Hearing and Speech Center in Yakima, Washington.
The centre, which was founded by Yakima Rotary Club in 1971, has faced significant funding cuts and financial losses in recent years.
The centre provides services such as speech, swallowing and hearing evaluations, pediatric speech and hearing evaluations, hearing aids and speech therapy.
Yakima Valley Hearing and Speech Center executive director Nancy Leahy was quoted by Daily Sun News as saying that the scope of the centre’s services was in jeopardy because of the funding gap between state insurance payment and the cost of providing the services.
The centre is said to be one of the largest hearing and speech centres in the Pacific Northwest, with around 16,000 visits per year.
Since 2013, Sunnyside has been working with the Yakima Valley Hearing and Speech Center to provide audiology and speech services at the hospital.
