The East Tennessee Health Information Network has deployed OptumInsight’s health information exchange technology for better patient care coordination and quality.

OptumInsight’s Axolotl platform will provide the group with a secure clinical network to connect physicians, hospitals, laboratory services providers and pharmacies in Tennessee.

The clinical network facilitates access to patient information which allows effective clinical decision-making and coordination with other care providers.

Physicians and hospitals have access to the state Health Information Partnership for Tennessee Network through the platform.

It also allows for the coordination of patient care, and lets doctors access clinical data from public health reporting, immunisation services, lab reporting services and other qualified organisations.

East Tennessee Health Information Network executive director Leigh Sterling said that OptumInsight is the best partner to securely connect hospitals, physicians and other health care providers with each other.

"Our vision is to connect to critical health information at the point of care to enable significant improvements in patient safety, health outcomes and opportunities for practice efficiencies," Sterling said.

East Tennessee Health Information Network president Mike Ward said that OptumInsight’s Axolotl solution fit into their vision of a robust health information exchange.

"Since before East Tennessee Health Information Network was formalised in 2003, providers in our region have been working together to enable the exchange of health information to improve health care outcomes and reduce costs for our community," Ward said.

OptumInsight Axolotl president Glenn Keet said that the initiative will help reduce duplicate testing, provide safer transitions of care and reduce administrative costs.

"Health information exchange technology from OptumInsight provides a secure bridge between medical professionals, improving access to information and facilitating communication between caregivers," Keet said.
