The new 550,000ft² Swedish / Issaquah medical campus has opened in the Issaquah Highlands, in the US state of Washington.

The second phase of the project, completed this week, adds 80 inpatient beds. There are plans to increase this number to 175 as patient volumes grow.

The first phase, completed in July, included primary and speciality care clinics, a full-service emergency department, a pharmacy, a laboratory, an imaging centre and eight retail stores.

The hospital is expected to set new standards in energy efficiency.

Medical centre vice-president John Milne said the new facility will reduce energy consumption and lower operating costs, while delivering the best healthcare services.
