A joint venture (JV) between PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation has received state regulatory approval of the Certificate of Need to build an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Canada.

The 67,000ft2 facility, which will be situated at 3400 Main Street in Vancouver, will offer 50 inpatient beds and is set to replace the now-closed PeaceHealth Memorial Urgent Care.

Demolition of the existing building on the site is anticipated to commence this fall, with the new hospital projected to be completed by mid-year 2027.

Upon completion, PeaceHealth Southwest will relocate its 14 existing beds to the new facility, expanding the region’s capacity for inpatient rehabilitation services.

PeaceHealth Southwest chief hospital executive Cherelle Montanye said: “Both PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation share a strong commitment of delivering high-quality care, and the construction of this hospital helps ensure we are meeting the needs of our community without them having to travel out of the area for care.”

This development marks the second JV partnership between PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation.

A similar project is currently underway in Springfield, Oregon, where a 42-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital is being constructed and is scheduled to open next year.

Lifepoint Rehabilitation chief operating officer David Stark said: “Receiving regulatory approval for this project is further confirmation of the community need for increased access to specialised rehabilitation care.

“This facility will enable us to care for more medically complex rehabilitation patients and serve patients in a facility wholly dedicated to their recovery, and we look forward to breaking ground on this transformative new chapter.”

The Vancouver hospital, which will be owned majorly by PeaceHealth in a JV with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, is poised to offer nursing and therapy services for adults recovering from neurological diseases, stroke, and other serious health issues.

At the facility, Lifepoint Rehabilitation will be responsible for day-to-day operations.

The new PeaceHealth facility will join Lifepoint Rehabilitation’s network of 45 inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the country once completed.
