Sectra, a medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company, has signed a digital pathology contract with Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa (IPO Lisboa).
IPO Lisboa is a hospital in Portugal known for its cancer care. It is claimed to be the first hospital in the country to include digital pathology in its existing VNA.

With Sectra’s digital pathology solution, pathologists can access images from any workstation within the hospital as well as remotely. It enables integrated diagnostic workflows and improves cancer care.
Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa pathology manager Dr. José Cabeçadas said: “Sectra’s digital pathology solution gives us access to already-proven calculation algorithms that will translate into greater reproducibility of results and have an impact on clinical decisions.”
IPO Lisboa is widening its medical imaging IT solution for radiology to include pathology.
The solution will give pathologists an instant access to images and related data, as well as, digital tools to review the images.
It will also enable pathologists to collaborate across departments and locations.
Dr. Cabeçadas added: “The use of a single system for the entire hospital guarantees a universal availability of resources and the possibility to work remotely. An immediate additional benefit is that the solution will provide increased efficiency in the preparations for multidisciplinary meetings.”
Sectra’s digital pathology solution offers digital tools which allow pathologists to make their diagnoses and enable them to carry out reporting with precision within a short period of time.
It is a vendor-neutral solution for primary diagnostics that includes storage solutions and an advanced review workstation.
