Private and physician-led network Steward Health Care has revealed plans to construct a new hospital in St. George, Utah, US.

Steward expects to break ground on the facility in July this year.

The new St. George hospital is scheduled to open and begin serving patients in October 2023.

Steward Health Care stated that the new hospital is part of the planned community in Washington City called Zion Medical Village.

It will provide a full range of care including orthopaedics, cardiovascular care, neurosurgery, and other outpatient services.

The company noted that additional compatible medical facilities will also be opened on the same campus.

Steward Health Care Systems chairman and CEO Ralph de la Torre said: “Steward Health Care believes St. George is one of the most exciting communities in the country – poised for exponential growth – and we are more than ready to grow with it.

“By expanding our footprint in Utah, we’ll bring our vision for high-quality, affordable, community health care to more patients.

“Our pioneering model will continue to focus on delivering the very best in care to ensure patients are spending less time in the hospital and more time pursuing their healthy, active lives in the St. George community.”

The new St. George hospital will join the six other Steward Health Care hospitals in the US state.

The six facilities are Davis Hospital in Layton, Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan, Jordan Valley Medical Center – West Valley Campus in West Valley City, Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
