The Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre project in Australia worth $658m ($431.8m) has marked a significant construction milestone as the new 12-storey facility reached its highest point.
This achievement was celebrated with a ‘topping out’ ceremony attended by Federal Minister for Health Mark Butler, Federal Member for Kingsford Smith Matt Thistlethwaite, NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park and Member for Coogee Dr Marjorie O’Neill.
The Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre are planned to be delivered as a single project in one facility, transforming paediatric health care locally, nationally, and globally.
The facility is on track to be completed by late 2025 and is part of a $1.5bn investment in the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct.
It will feature a range of enhanced facilities, including a children’s intensive care unit, a larger emergency department, a medical short-stay unit, and a neurosciences centre.
Additionally, it will house KidsHQ, a virtual care and hospital command centre, inpatient units, a day oncology centre, and a dedicated bone marrow transplant unit.
