UAE-based private healthcare provider Burjeel Holdings has received approval from its board of directors to open two day surgery centres in Saudi Arabia.

The specialised day surgery centres are expected to open by next year and will be located in Saudi Arabia’s capital city, Riyadh.

They will offer complex, minimally invasive services in various specialities, including orthopaedics, oncology, neurology and advanced gynaecology.

Burjeel will own and operate the facilities, which are each expected to deliver annual revenue of between SAR150m ($39.9m) and SAR200m ($53.3m) when fully operational.

The projected capital expenditure for each centre is estimated at $30m to $40m, while each facility's working capital investment is projected to be between $10m and $15m.

The introduction of these internationally affiliated centres is part of Burjeel's efforts to provide customers in Saudi Arabia with access to advanced services, including robotics solutions.

Burjeel cites its Al Reem specialised day surgery centre in Abu Dhabi as a testament to the success of this model.

The Al Reem facility generated revenues of AED253m ($68.8m) last year, with an inpatient occupancy rate of 62%.

Burjeel Holdings founder and chairman Dr Shamsheer Vayalil said: “We are immensely proud to support Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 through the enhancement of healthcare services and patient outcomes in Saudi Arabia.

“Today’s announcement is part of our broader commitment to maximising the accessibility of high-quality healthcare services across the region.

"Importantly, the addition of specialised day surgery centres in Saudi Arabia complements the recent launch of our PhysioTherabia network and reinforces our strong commitment to patient excellence and aspiration to create a healthier, brighter future for all.”

Burjeel currently operates 16 hospitals and 30 medical centres across the Middle East and North Africa, as well as pharmacies and other allied services.

The company recently inaugurated a gastrointestinal and liver disease centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
