Eden Radioisotopes has secured support from the State of New Mexico for its planned $1.4bn medical isotope manufacturing facility in Lea County, US.

The company selected Kiewit Nuclear Solutions to lead engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the project.

Economic Development New Mexico will support the proposed investment through LEDA GRT Share, the Job Training Incentive Program, and high-wage and rural job tax credits.

The state expects the initiative to generate 205 jobs and yield an economic impact exceeding $1.5bn across a ten-year span.

Alongside Kiewit Nuclear Solutions, Sargent & Lundy will maintain its role on the project, providing ongoing architectural, engineering, and regulatory services.

The venture is planned as the first purpose-built reactor and processing site in North America dedicated entirely to medical isotope production.

Its design incorporates reactor technology derived from research conducted at Sandia National Laboratories to manufacture materials for diagnostic imaging and targeted cancer therapies.

Eden Radioisotopes CEO Carrie Freeman said: “This is about turning an ambitious idea into critical American infrastructure. The State of New Mexico understands both the economic opportunity and the national importance of what we are building. And with Kiewit and Sargent & Lundy, we are assembling the experienced team needed to move this project from development through construction and into operation.

“New Mexico has the scientific heritage, workforce and nuclear expertise to help solve a problem that affects patients throughout the country. State support and the addition of Kiewit to a team that already includes Sargent & Lundy demonstrate that Eden is building the partnerships necessary to make domestic medical isotope production a reality."

In May, Eden Radioisotopes submitted a Construction Permit Application to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The regulator is expected to issue a formal ruling in mid-2027, with the company targeting commercial operations in 2030.
