Indonesia’s Ministry of Health has selected GE HealthCare to supply more than 300 computed tomography (CT) scanners to public hospitals in all 38 provinces, including both remote and urban areas.

These scanners will be supplied under a multi-year contract as part of the Strengthening Indonesia’s Health Referral Network (SIHREN) programme, which aims to deliver equitable and quality care to over 280 million people in the country.

The procurement process was conducted through a completely competitive international tender, governed by the procurement regulations of the Islamic Development Bank.

The SIHREN project is designed to modernise the national referral system and broaden diagnostics and treatment access.

It will focus on management of non-communicable diseases, pandemic resilience and maternal health.

The partnership will upgrade the referral network while improving access to the latest diagnostics to introduce quality care closer to all communities.

GE HealthCare International president and CEO Elie Chaillot said: “We are proud to support the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s vision. Our ongoing investments in local manufacturing, capacity building and training reflect our commitment to contribute to Indonesia’s healthcare resilience and drive local economic growth.

“Equally important, this initiative helps ensure that advanced diagnostic technologies reach rural and remote communities, promoting healthcare equity and bringing life-saving care closer to every Indonesian.”

The CT technology access will support early detection to provide timely treatment for critical conditions such as stroke, cancer and heart disease, supporting improved health outcomes across the country.

GE HealthCare has worked with the public and private healthcare sectors of Indonesia for more than seven decades.

Earlier this year, the company secured a tender for the supply of ten 1.5T MR systems to public hospitals in the country.
