The Greek Government has partnered with Sword Health for an AI-driven healthcare initiative, covering more than ten million citizens.
This initiative is claimed to place Greece among the early adopters of such systems in Europe.
The collaboration initially aims to integrate AI support into the new National Health Information Line (1566), which acts as the initial point of contact for individuals seeking assistance in managing their healthcare.
Through the incorporation of AI in coordination and triage, the Greek Ministry of Health intends to provide consistent support across various regions, increase capacity, and enhance response times while fostering adaptability during times of elevated demand.
Sword Intelligence, the company’s AI care management division, will lead the work.
The technology is designed to support professionals operating the lines by managing high-volume tasks and reducing routine workloads.
By accommodating variations in demand and guiding citizens to suitable services, the system aims to enhance the capacity of frontline teams.
Initiating with this crucial access point, Greece is establishing the basis for a national AI-enhanced system designed to improve access to healthcare, decrease waiting times, alleviate pressure on hospitals, and offer leaders real-time insights into emerging needs.
Sword Health founder and CEO Virgilio Bento said: “This is a bold and visionary step for the Greek government and for Europe. By combining AI's transformative power with human empathy, Greece is pioneering a new model of care that expands access, relieves pressure on providers, and demonstrates how technology can truly serve humanity.”
Greece's Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis said: “We believe Sword Health can help us rise to this challenge. This partnership will rebuild how care flows through our system, making it faster, clearer, and more centred on people.”
The collaboration aims to establish a reference model in Europe for AI to support public health systems and enhance national service delivery.
