Healthix and CLEAR enhance health data access for New Yorkers

The collaboration allows consumers to access their health records from over 8,000 health facilities in New York.

US-based health information exchange (HIE) Healthix and digital identity platform provider CLEAR have joined forces to provide free, secure access to healthcare data for New Yorkers.

It allows consumers to access their health records from over 8,000 health facilities in New York through an online portal.

The portal can be accessed by entering the New York State zip code or the zip code of a healthcare facility where care was received.

This identity verification process adheres to National Institute of Standards and Technology standards.

Besides, Healthix has tapped Hixny, another New York State HIE, to provide patient portal technology with CLEAR's identity verification.

Using CLEAR's identity verification technology, individuals can verify their identity with a selfie, eliminating the need for manual passcodes.

The partnership aims to help New York citizens access their medical records and share them with authorised healthcare providers.

This initiative emphasises privacy protection, with each HIE platform being HITRUST certified and utilising security measures to protect patient data.

Healthix president and CEO Todd Rogow said: “Today, Healthix joins many of our partner healthcare organisations in empowering New York residents by granting them direct access to their medical information, promoting transparency and encouraging them to actively engage in their healthcare activities.

“Our launch of My Health Record NY supports our organisation's mission of mobilising health information across our community to advance patient care and opens up medical information going back for over a decade.”

CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker said: “Through this partnership, we're not only helping to empower New Yorkers with access to their medical records, but we're also saving providers time and empowering them to do what they do best – provide world-class care and save lives.”

Healthcare industry continues to be highly vulnerable to cyberattacks

Cybersecurity is a growing market in the medical devices sector for several reasons. Medical devices often collect and contain vulnerable data, such as patient medical information. Legacy medical devices are a cause for concern because they likely were not designed with cyberattacks in mind. With the adoption of EHR systems, telemedicine measures, mobile health apps, and other connected devices, there is increased vulnerability to cyberattacks.
