Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital has inaugurated its newly renovated cancer centre in Ogden, Northern Utah, US, marking a significant expansion in patient care facilities.

With a ceremonial bell ringing, a group of Intermountain Health cancer caregivers, clinical leaders, and patients officially opened the cancer centre.

The comprehensive and personalised Intermountain Cancer Center- McKay-Dee Hospital is situated on the hospital's first floor for convenient access and features 12 infusion bays, compared to the eight units it had previously.

Chemotherapy bays at the centre have been increased from 16 to 24 and the centre will also have several teams working together for more comprehensive patient care.

This expanded centre also features a new linear accelerator and a compounding pharmacy adjacent to the infusion bays for expedited treatment.

The latest expansion is claimed to be the largest renovation executed since the hospital's opening in 2002.

The centre’s design, by TSA Architects, integrates elements aimed at creating a healing environment, including quiet flooring, treatment spaces with nature views, and private patient entrances.

Individualised care will be provided with a team of oncologists, surgeons, and support staff members working together to design tailored treatment regimens for each patient.

The project was made possible through philanthropy, with more than $4m in gifts and donations to the Intermountain Foundation contributing to the funding of the new centre.

The comprehensive range of treatments and services offered include cancer immunotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, biotherapy, genetic counselling, and radiation therapy, among others, which are all aimed at providing holistic support to patients.

Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital president Judy Williamson said: “The cancer centre is designed to empower its patients and bring a feeling of home and hope, no matter their treatment setting.

“We hope it will be a home where friends can strengthen and support one another during their cancer journey and bring people together in a fight to overcome cancer.”
