The Temora Hospital redevelopment in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has moved a step forward with the appointment of Richard Crookes Construction as the main works contractor.

The A$95m ($61.7m) project, set to commence in the coming months, aims to offer health facilities and enhanced services to the residents of Temora and its neighbouring communities.

NSW health minister Ryan Park said: “This is an exciting day for Temora and the wider community. The appointment of the builder marks a major step forward in delivering the modern hospital facilities this region deserves.

“The A$95m investment will significantly improve the experience of patients, families and healthcare workers, and ensure the community can continue to access high-quality health care closer to home.”

The redevelopment encompasses a range of services, including a new emergency department, operating theatre, birthing and nursery, community health and mental health, allied health and ambulatory clinics with a gymnasium, and drug and alcohol services.

It will also feature an adaptable inpatient unit for various medical needs, such as surgical, medical, rehabilitation, maternity, and palliative care patients.

In addition to these facilities, the project will introduce new services such as an extra procedure room and an expanded medical imaging unit equipped with ultrasound and CT capabilities.

The design also prioritises improved accessibility and convenience with enhanced car parking and separate entries for emergency and service vehicles.

The project is anticipated to be completed by 2028.

Cootamundra Labor spokesperson Stephen Lawrence said: “The Temora community has long advocated for improved health services, and this milestone is a proud moment for all of us.

“This redevelopment will deliver improved health outcomes for patients and better working conditions for health staff, while also supporting jobs and economic activity in our region throughout construction of the redeveloped Temora Hospital.”

This announcement follows a similar progression with the Cessnock Hospital redevelopment earlier this year, where Hansen Yuncken was named the builder.
