Mount Sinai Health System is set to implement Microsoft Dragon Copilot, an AI clinical assistant that aims to automate administrative tasks, enhance clinical documentation, and highlight essential information across various care settings.
The initiative forms part of its digital transformation and responsible AI strategy, designed to support clinicians and enhance patient outcomes.
The platform integrates generative AI, ambient listening, and natural language processing to document care within the electronic health record (EHR) to streamline clinical workflows and minimise administrative burdens.
Mount Sinai executive vice-president and chief digital information officer Lisa Stump said: “Mount Sinai’s adoption of Dragon Copilot, after a multi-vendor evaluation, represents a transformative step forward in how we use technology to support our clinicians and elevate the care experience.
“By embedding this AI assistant into the clinical workflow, we’re reducing documentation fatigue, improving information flow, and freeing up our care teams to focus on what matters most — caring for patients.
“We are excited to work with Microsoft as an enterprise partner, and excited to be the first academic medical centre to deploy Dragon Copilot to our care team, as we collaborate on this rapidly evolving technology.”
The system’s integrated ambient and voice capabilities enable care teams, physicians, and nurses to automate related tasks and documentation through natural interactions with patients.
It enhances care coordination and simplifies complex processes.
Clinicians are likely to achieve consistent documentation quickly while patients may benefit from more engaged interactions.
The rollout of Microsoft Dragon Copilot has started in select departments, with plans for a system-wide expansion scheduled for next year.
Each phase will include evaluation, feedback, and training for equitable and secure integration across clinical settings.
In September 2024, Mount Sinai Health System partnered with digital healthcare company Noom to provide patients with a comprehensive approach to weight management.
