Finland's Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District has commissioned NCC for the construction of Building C at the Oulu University Hospital under a contract valued at Skr1.7bn ($180m).

The project forms part of the second phase of the hospital’s modernisation programme and extends NCC’s involvement, following the successful completion of Buildings A and F.

Building C will accommodate adult day care services, specialised healthcare clinics, pathology laboratories, and training and teaching facilities, along with a social and health care centre.

The project is being delivered through an alliance and partnering model, following a development phase during which detailed construction planning was carried out.

NCC holds responsibility for the design, construction and technical building services for the scheme.

Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District programme manager Kari-Pekka Tampio stated: “The development phase was quite protracted as we evaluated different options and methods of implementation, but we kept within our strict financial framework.

“A big thank you to NCC, as well as to the project planners and our reference groups. The trust that has been built up over many years of collaboration between top professionals is a strong foundation to stand on. The processes we have jointly developed to coordinate the project have helped us succeed.”

NCC Building Nordics head Catarina Molén-Runnäs stated: “With this project, we are continuing the strong partnership we have enjoyed for many years with the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District.

“As part of a professional alliance, we are now constructing a modern, first-rate hospital, which places major demands both on coordination and on construction expertise for us as a contractor.” Construction begins in 2025, with completion scheduled for mid-2029.
