US-based NewYork-Presbyterian has announced the launch of a women’s health programme, supported by a $20m donation from entrepreneur and philanthropist Emilia Fazzalari.

The gift amount will be used to establish the Emilia Fazzalari Women’s Health Center of Excellence and the Emilia Fazzalari Women’s Health Program, together known as Fazzalari Women’s Health.

This initiative aims to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care for women in Manhattan and Westchester, US, with particular emphasis on menopause and perimenopause.

The women’s health programme is structured around each patient’s obstetrician / gynaecologist (OB/GYN), who will work in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team from Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian.

The approach replaces fragmented appointments with ongoing, coordinated care throughout a woman’s life, supporting patients to take an active role in managing their health.

Led by Fazzalari Women’s Health director and OB-GYN Dr Mary Rosser, the initiative addresses women’s evolving needs across the lifespan.

Specialists from Columbia will provide care at two sites: NewYork-Presbyterian The One in Westchester and a location on West 51st Street in Manhattan.

Services will include cardiovascular, gynaecologic, neurocognitive, mental health, sexual health care and gastrointestinal; exercise and nutrition guidance; and genetic screening.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center obstetrician and gynaecologist-in-chief Dr Mary D’Alton said: “Emilia Fazzalari has a bold vision for the future of women’s health care, and we are proud to bring it to life together. Her generosity enables us to scale compassionate, personalised care and make it accessible to more women.”

NewYork-Presbyterian operates ten hospitals in the Greater New York area and nearly 200 primary and speciality care clinics and medical groups.

The organisation also offers a range of telemedicine services and employs around 50,000 staff and affiliated physicians.
