Oula, a maternity care clinic combining midwifery and obstetrics, has secured an investment of $28m in its Series B funding round.

The latest funding round was co-led by venture capital companies Revolution Ventures and Maverick Ventures.

It also saw the participation of GV and other existing investors, including Alumni Ventures, the Female Founders Fund, 8VC, and Great Oaks.

The new capital injection brings Oula's total funding to nearly $50m, marking a significant step towards expanding its services beyond New York City.

Oula aims to use this fresh infusion to broaden its technology-enabled, hybrid care approach and introduce new services for the ones in their reproductive years.

Oula CEO and co-founder Adrianne Nickerson said: “The power of Oula's collaborative approach to care is that patients feel seen and heard during a transformative moment in their lives, health systems are able to address the evolving expectations of their communities, and we can move the needle on unacceptable outcomes and disparities in maternal care.”

According to Oula, the new investment reflects a substantial market opportunity to revolutionise the maternity care experience in the US, which is currently facing significant challenges.

The company said its care model, which combines obstetrics and midwifery, has been reshaping patient experiences since 2021 by catering to the specific needs of consumers, health systems, and payers.

Oula highlighted that its approach allows for earlier engagement with expectant mothers, offering appointments immediately following a positive pregnancy test.

The clinic's model extends support into the postpartum period, with initiatives like weekly “Postpartum Office Hours”.

Looking ahead, Oula also plans to introduce preconception coaching and enhanced miscarriage support services.

Oula's comprehensive services address significant gaps in current healthcare provisions, including early and postpartum care, group education, and dedicated support for BIPOC parents and families.

The clinic's operations are enhanced by its proprietary software, designed to integrate with its electronic medical records system, facilitating patient decision-making and ensuring seamless coordination of care.

Oula currently operates three locations in New York City, with plans to expand to additional markets by 2025.
