The government of Western Australia has entered a new agreement with Ramsay Health Care, enabling the latter to continue operating the Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) until June 2043.

This service agreement extends Ramsay’s contract to run the campus, in the northern suburbs of Perth, for a further 15 years.

Besides, Ramsay is gearing up to commence an A$190m ($124m) expansion of JHC's private services.

This development includes the construction of a new operating theatre complex as well as increasing the bed capacity at the facility by 55%.

Ramsay will fully finance this expansion work.

The new expansion plans build on the ongoing A$269m investment by the Western Australian and Commonwealth governments into public healthcare services.

Once work is completed, the campus is anticipated to become one of the largest health facilities in the state.

The private development will result in six new operating theatres, two rooms for day procedures, 22-bed short stay surgical ward and a 30-bed surgical/medical ward among others.

The newly-constructed theatre complex along with 82 additional beds including 30 shelled for usage in the future is projected to double patient admissions at the facility.

Ramsay Health Care also intends to enhance cancer treatment services at JHC, with an emphasis on increasing the number of cancer surgeries performed, including breast and colorectal surgeries.

Western Australia premier Roger Cook said: “All well-designed healthcare systems across the world make use of a mix of public and private services and that is exactly what we are delivering in Joondalup.

“This contract extension allows us to get on with the job of continuing to provide top quality public services in Joondalup, as well as paving the way for a major uplift in private services, including 55 per cent more beds.

“I thank Ramsay Health Care for their continued investment in the northern corridor and welcome their announcement of increased private services for patients.”
