RenovoRx reports RenovoCath’s first clinical use in sarcoma

RenovoRx has reported the first commercial clinical use of its RenovoCath device for the treatment of a sarcoma patient.

The procedure was carried out at the CARTI Cancer Center Little Rock (CARTI), Arkansas, US.

This case marks the first time RenovoCath has been used commercially to deliver chemotherapy locally to a sarcoma tumour, representing an expansion of the device’s application to other solid tumours beyond pancreatic cancer.

Sarcoma, a form of cancer affecting soft tissues or bones, can be difficult to treat due to its variable location and lower responsiveness to systemic chemotherapy.

CARTI clinicians used RenovoCath to administer chemotherapy directly to the area near the tumour rather than via systemic intravenous methods.

According to RenovoRx, treatment is ongoing.

CARTI is among a group of cancer centres employing the device for drug delivery in malignancies such as pancreatic cancer.

The institution’s use of RenovoCath for sarcoma further reflects the adoption of this localised delivery approach across a broader spectrum of solid tumours.

CARTI interventional radiologist Edgar St Amour said: “Sarcoma can be challenging to treat because it often occurs in diverse locations and can be less responsive to systemic chemotherapy.

“Our experience using RenovoCath to deliver chemotherapy at a local level for pancreatic cancer and its potential to reduce toxicity encouraged us to identify other tumours that could benefit from this innovative technology.

“We are encouraged by the early results we have observed and will continue to monitor the patient’s progress closely.”

The RenovoCath device is cleared in the US for isolating blood flow and delivering fluids, such as diagnostic or therapeutic agents, to specific sites in the peripheral vascular system, and for temporary vessel occlusion in certain clinical situations.

In December 2024, RenovoRx started commercialising its RenovoCath device after receiving the first purchase orders for the delivery platform, which was cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration.
