Essentia Health's new St Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, is set to implement interactive patient engagement technology from SONIFI Health.

The technology will integrate with the hospital's Epic EHR system, allowing patients and their families to use interactive TVs in their rooms to view content about their condition, and get data about their care team and the new hospital.

Besides, patients can order food from their TVs.

The hospital's leaders worked with the vendor to provide different options on the TVs, such as free movies, live channels. Patients can also watch streaming content from their mobile phones on the TV.

This is expected to streamline manual tasks for nurses, allowing them more time to focus on patient care.

SONIFI Health nursing executive Julie Westrick said: "When patients have a simple, engaging way to learn about their care and what they need to do to heal, it can improve their health outcomes and overall satisfaction.

"With integrations that automate manual tasks, like assigning and charting education, the system also gives nurses more time to focus on what they do best: Caring for patients."

Set to open later this year, the hospital has a bed capacity of 346.
