Sutter Health has announced plans to build a new medical centre near Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, US, to expand healthcare access across the region.

To be set on a 13.63-acre site, the development is part of Sutter Health’s initiative to establish a dual-campus medical destination in Silicon Valley, integrating care with the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group (PAFMG).

The approximately 850,000ft², eight-storey medical centre will be constructed at 2831 and 2841 Mission College Boulevard, replacing the current office park.

On completion, the Sutter Medical Center, Santa Clara will include 272 licensed beds in private patient rooms, with the capability to add a further 30 beds to accommodate future demand.

The facility will comprise intensive care units, labour and delivery suites, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and a full-service emergency department.

It will feature an environmentally responsible building design, a rooftop helipad for emergency transport, and advanced operating rooms along with surgical services. Access will be available for community and community physicians.

Patients will experience continuous and integrated care throughout the entire spectrum, from the medical centre to specialist clinics to ambulatory surgery units and diagnostic imaging.

Sutter Health president and CEO Warner Thomas said: “We are honoured to work alongside our longtime partners at Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, whose physicians have delivered exceptional care in the Silicon Valley for decades.

“This new medical centre builds on PAFMG’s distinguished legacy and connects their award-winning care to a full continuum of services within a comprehensive, integrated model of care — ensuring we can meet every patient need.”

The project is anticipated to support more than 2,500 jobs across supplier industries, construction and the broader economy, at the time of development.

During the development phase, its total economic impact is expected to be $3.3bn.

The facility aims to enhance access and patient experience in the area. It is scheduled to open in late 2031.
