Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is set to expand healthcare access in Citrus County by acquiring a 53-acre site next to the TGH Crystal River Emergency Center in Citrus Hills, Florida, US.
The move aims to increase access to academic medicine for a growing local population and strengthen the health system’s regional footprint.
The planned development includes a medical office building, hospital, a helicopter pad and a central energy plant.
TGH aims to address evolving healthcare needs in the area by adding connectivity to specialised services.
The new property becomes part of TGH North, which links facilities and services across Hernando and Citrus counties to a broader network of providers and complex care.
TGH strategic growth executive vice-president Steve Short said: “We’re excited about the potential this expansion has to transform care for the burgeoning Citrus Hills community.
“This new property is another opportunity to leverage the full power and scale of Tampa General’s network to connect patients we serve in the TGH North market to the same specialised services, renowned clinical expertise, coordinated care and exceptional outcomes we offer at our leading academic medical centre.”
TGH North currently includes ten primary care and speciality clinics, three hospitals, two ambulatory surgery centres and one freestanding emergency room.
Established following TGH’s 2023 acquisition of the Bravera Health network, TGH North has since expanded offerings in heart and vascular, cancer and infant care.
TGH executive vice-president and chief administrative officer Stacey Brandt said: “We are incredibly proud that as our footprint grows, so too does the impact we to make on the health and well-being of the patients we serve.
“This acquisition is an exciting opportunity to bring even more of the comprehensive, specialised services we offer through our network into the TGH North market.”
In August 2025, CLEAR and TGH announced a partnership to integrate CLEAR1 biometric identity verification platform into the latter’s identity access management system, PingOne DaVinci.
