Siemens Healthineers company Varian has unveiled significant advancements for its Halcyon treatment platform at the ASTRO 2025 Annual Meeting in the US.
Halcyon systems offer image-guided radiotherapy treatments in under ten minutes.
The upgraded solution features integrated cone beam CT imaging, enhanced real-time motion management, and improved patient positioning capabilities.
These innovations signify the most advanced version of Halcyon so far, to enhance the overall patient experience and treatment precision.
With Halcyon’s compact design, quick installation, and streamlined workflows, clinics will be able to simplify, expedite, and personalise delivery of treatments without introducing unnecessary complexity.
The latest advancements further enhance the platform’s position as a linear accelerator for clinical applications.
This release brings together the engineering expertise of Varian and Siemens Healthineers, introducing the PerfectKinetix Dynamic Couch, which offers an increased payload and multidimensional movement for accurate positioning of patients.
The Dynamic Couch features single-motion adjustments that improve precision and patient comfort while simplifying the setup for therapists.
It incorporates motion capabilities, laying the groundwork for treatments that utilise movement.
When integrated with IDENTIFY real-time motion management and automated beam hold to accommodate patient movement, as well as HyperSight imaging capabilities, Varian states that the platform provides clinicians with improved control and confidence.
Siemens Healthineers Varian radiation oncology solutions president Sasa Mutic said: "Halcyon reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing cancer care through intelligent design and purposeful innovation.
“This launch brings the most transformative advancements ever available on this system—to empower clinicians, improve the patient experience, and support a more sustainable future for healthcare."
